Porto is the second largest city is Portugal and the capital of the Northern region. It’s a very busy commercial and industrial centre with a population of around 240,000 residents. Nearby cities include Gaia, Maia, Gondomar, Matosinhos and Espinho. The city is built along the hills and overlooking the Douro River and has been awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO for its historical centres. Porto offers many travellers a mixture of modern architecture and medieval history, with many things to see and do such as visit the North side of Douro and Porto Valley or try a glass of tawny port wine. Porto has a climate very close to many other Mediterranean cities and most of the locals all speak Spanish.
